In this project everything is thought out and designed by Schreiterer Studio, first I raised the idea of making an album of collectible stickers with the best riders and their horses but then the idea turned to something more educational due to the complication in car rights with the names and images to give rise to horse breed.
PROCESS
Three-Layer Hand-Painting Technique in Procreate
Each horse in the Equfigus project was painted entirely by hand in Procreate, following a three-layer method that I refined over months of work. I begin with a flat base color to establish temperature, overall shape, and the first sense of volume. Once the silhouette is set, I build a mid-tone layer to define structure, muscles, and the main transitions of light across the body. Only when these two foundations are balanced, I move to the shadow layer, where form, depth, and tension start to appear.
After the core layers are complete, I slowly add highlights and fine details: subtle light breaks, reflected tones, hair texture, and micro-accents that give each horse its final presence. Nothing is automated. Every stroke is placed manually, adjusting intensity and edges to keep the illustration coherent and alive.
This process requires time and precision. It took nine months to complete all the illustrations for the Equfigus album, working horse by horse, layer by layer, until each one felt consistent, accurate, and true to its character.
