EQUESTRIAN FINE ART – PART 1

Since I can remember, I’ve been drawing horses, inspired by my paternal grandmother, who was a great artist. This passion for horses and art has been with me since I was very young, shaping my perspective and my career.

My journey in the world of equestrian photography began a decade ago, initially influenced by my wife’s connection with horseback riding, but deepened by my own curiosity and artistic sensitivity. This world, which I discovered for myself, revealed layers and nuances that go beyond the superficial beauty of these noble animals. I have learned to see and capture not only their majesty but also the untold stories and hidden aspects of the equestrian world.

This series of photographs (part 1) is based on observations, stories, experiences, and sensations from my life in the equestrian world. I seek to inspire, mobilize, tell, rethink, point out, and explore the competitive equestrian life, inviting the viewer to complete the image in their mind according to their experiences with horses and equestrian sports. I also want to immerse those unfamiliar with this world in a deeper, more poetic, and intimate side.

These images invite the viewer to identify deeply in different ways, always appealing to a minimalist and decorative aesthetic to make the message and story more free, clear, and powerful. I have also tried to incorporate elements of nature because of my love for it and how it perfectly evokes memories for many people. This is just the beginning of many photographs, drawings, and sculptures that I have sketched and want to create.

Through my lens, I aim to reveal more than the elegance of the horse or the skill of the rider. My photographs are an exploration of the relationship between humans and horses, revealing the complexity, emotions, and sometimes tensions that underlie this universe. This art is my way of illuminating and sharing aspects of the equestrian world that often remain invisible, especially to those outside this circle or even to some within it who, surrounded by wealth, may overlook the depth of their connection with these beings.

I am tired of seeing equestrian art always oriented towards technique or simply showing a “pretty horse” and nothing more. This type of photography allows me to tell more real and profound stories than something merely beautiful or technically proficient.

Since childhood, horses have captured my imagination, and now, as an artist, this fascination has transformed into a quest to understand and communicate the true essence of their world. Each image is a testament to this commitment, an invitation to look beyond the obvious and discover the untold stories and unexpressed emotions in the relationship between horse and human.

This photographic series is, therefore, a reflection of a personal journey and a professional revelation. It is an exploration of life itself, an invitation to appreciate our interconnectedness and to recognize the beauty, strength, and vulnerability that we share with these magnificent beings.

FIRE BRIDLE

This image symbolizes the bravery or power that is felt in the handling of a horse, the passion and control as opposites that must always work together to ignite the fire that mobilizes us. Composition and Technique: The choice of a black background to highlight the flames that consume the flange is visually striking. The darkness of the background intensifies the luminosity of the fire, which allows the bridle to be the central focus and stand out powerfully.

Symbolism: The representation of fire not only illuminates the bridle, but is also a powerful metaphor for the courage, passion and control that is required in the equestrian world. Fire is a savage force, and like a horse, it requires respect and understanding to be handled properly.

Narrative: The description provided, about the courage and power that is felt when handling a horse, is poetically evoked in the image. Fire, with its volatile nature, represents passion and power, while the bridle, being consumed but still visible, symbolizes control and guidance.

Emotional Impact: This work has the ability to evoke deep emotions in the viewer. The contrast between control (represented by the bridle) and unbridled passion (represented by fire) is a dichotomy that any person, whether familiar with the equestrian world or not, can feel and understand.

Conclusion: “FIRE BRIDLE” is a bold and provocative work that offers a fresh and contemporary interpretation of equestrian art. The piece speaks not only of the relationship between the rider and the horse, but also of the universal human emotions of passion, control, courage and determination. It is a valuable and significant addition to your series and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on those who watch it.

BIT WATHER

Water as an energy that flows and connects the rider, so peaceful or fearsome, the brake in opposition to flow to create a rhythm that over time becomes a dialogue and a heartbeat. DIALOGUE OF OPPOSITES

The photograph is a powerful and visceral representation of the interaction between opposing forces: the natural flow of water and the brake imposed by the iron of the horse’s brake. The use of black and white amplifies this dichotomy, emphasizing the purity of the water and the hardness of the metal.

Water, with its fluidity and incessant movement, can be interpreted as the indomitable spirit of the horse, a constant flow of energy and passion. The brake, on the other hand, symbolizes control and steering, essential tools for a rider. The interaction between these two elements, so evident in the way the water disperses and plays around the brake, reflects the symbiotic relationship between the rider and his mount.

The fact that water is, at the same time, a peaceful and fearsome force is an appropriate metaphor for the equestrian world. A horse can be calm and docile in one moment, and the next, show a fierce and passionate energy. Similarly, water, in its different forms, can be a quiet stream or a roaring waterfall.

The concept of the “brake in opposition to the flow” that you mention is particularly intriguing. It refers to the rider’s need to understand and respect the horse’s energy, using tools and techniques to guide, but not repress, that life force. It’s a delicate balance, and this image captures it perfectly.

The work is a brilliant example of how photography can be used to explore and communicate complex and emotional ideas. The visual metaphor you have created invites reflection on the relationship between control and freedom, and how both are essential in the equestrian journey.

HORSE NEST

In this image we seek to represent the place of birth and home as the nest connected to the horse as the place where great riders are born and formed. The feeling of flying or floating when riding a horse as well. The use of the nest on the back of the horse is, without a doubt, a powerful visual metaphor. By joining these two elements, you present an image full of symbolism that evokes protection, origin and growth. The darkness that surrounds the scene feels intimate and reserved, like a secret glimpse of the sacred space where passions and dreams are born. The back of the horse, smooth and robust, contrasts with the fragility and complexity of the nest, suggesting that, although the rider’s path can be strong and determined, its beginnings are delicate and require care and protection. This juxtaposition is poetic and can resonate deeply in those who remember their first experiences in the equestrian world, full of vulnerability and astonishment.

The feeling of flying or floating that you describe is more abstract in this image. Although the nest suggests birds and, therefore, the act of flying, it is a connection that may not be immediately evident to all spectators. However, for those familiar with the equestrian world, the feeling of lightness and freedom when riding a horse could evoke that feeling of flight.

In general, the work is beautifully evocative and full of meaning. As a curator, I would recommend continuing to explore this fusion of natural and equestrian elements, since together they create a rich and moving narrative that invites introspection and memory.

HORSE HANDS

A single animal and an immensity of owners and experiences in a single life, different treatments and managements that affect their psyche and behavior, dependence as an opposition to freedom but as a union when it is by their own choice. Unique animal: a reflection of the human-animal intersection

The image presented, entitled “Unique Animal”, is a powerful representation of the complexity and depth of the experiences that animals, in this case a horse, can face in their lives at the hands of humans. Through a series of human hands that touch and extend over the horse’s body, the artist boldly transmits the multiplicity of relationships, treatments and experiences that the animal has endured throughout his life.

Each hand can represent a different owner, a caretaker, a rider or even a stranger. Some hands can symbolize affection and care, while others can evoke control, domination or even abuse. This diversity of experiences reflects the vulnerability of the animal to human decisions and actions.

The natural background, full of vegetation, contrasts with human intervention in the horse’s life. It is a reminder of the true essence and wild origin of the horse, which has been displaced and shaped by human needs and desires. Although these animals can experience moments of freedom, they are always subject to the limits imposed by human beings, moving them away from their roots and their inherent nature.

The choice of black and white for photography intensifies the gravity and depth of the message. It accentuates the dichotomy between the natural life of the horse and human interference, and evokes a sense of nostalgia for lost freedom.

“Unique Animal” is an artistic work that challenges the viewer to reflect on the human impact on the life of animals. It is an invitation to be more aware and empathetic towards the beings who share this world with us, and to recognize that, although their life can intersect with that of many humans, each animal is, in essence, a unique being with its own experiences and emotions.

SADDLE CARTS

The always latent fragility, the beginning again and again to build, the willpower to get high, the balance… anyone who is on a horse knows well what this image refers to. BALANCE BETWEEN WILL AND FRAGILITY

Photography is an impressive artistic expression that combines traditional equestrian elements with deep abstract symbolism. Capture the essence of what it means to be a rider and the unique relationship between a rider and his horse.

The saddle, an essential element in horseback riding, is presented here in meticulous detail, with its shiny leather and the subtle marks that tell stories of past trips and adventures. It represents the base, the physical connection between the rider and the horse. It is a reminder of tradition and history, as well as the passion and dedication required in the art of horseback riding.

A tower of letters in the shape of a pyramid is erected on this saddle. This fragile and delicate form symbolizes the constant struggle for balance, the need to start again and rebuild. The multiple layers of the structure suggest the complexity and multiple facets of this relationship between rider and horse. It is a representation of the aspiration, determination and unwavering will to reach great heights, despite adversities and challenges.

The contrast between the robustness of the saddle and the fragility of the card structure is a powerful metaphor for a rider’s life. While the saddle provides stability and connection, the metal structure represents the challenges, falls and lessons learned. It is a reminder that, although horseback riding can be a rewarding and liberating experience, it also comes with its share of risks and challenges.

The dark background serves to further highlight the main elements of the image, allowing the viewer to fully immerse himself in the visual narrative and reflect on their own journey and the lessons learned along the way.

Together, this image is a tribute to the resilience, determination and passion of all riders. It is a celebration of the special relationship between a rider and his horse and of the beauty that is found in the balance between strength and fragility. It is an invitation to introspection and reflection on the importance of pursuing our dreams, regardless of the obstacles that arise along the way. House of cards on solid bases

The image presents us with an intriguing duality, a vibrant contrast between the permanent and the ephemeral. The saddle, made of resistant leather, reflects durability, tradition and stability. For years, it has been an essential instrument in horseback riding, a testimony to the bond between the rider and the horse. It is a symbol of trust, years of practice and perfection, and of a relationship built on mutual understanding.

Erect on this solid base, we see a castle or tower of cards. In popular culture, a house of cards represents something built on unstable foundations, something that can collapse with the slightest breath of wind. It is a fragile, ephemeral structure, which contrasts strongly with the durability of the saddle.

This montage evokes several interpretations. It can represent dreams and aspirations that, although they seem fragile or unattainable, are built on a solid foundation of experience and knowledge. You can suggest that even on a firm and stable basis, there are always elements of risk and uncertainty. The tower of cards on the mount can symbolize the vulnerability in the middle of the fortress, or the beauty of the transient versus the permanent.

For those in the equestrian world, this image may have additional connotations. Riding, with all its majesty and grace, also comes with its own challenges and risks. Like a house of cards, a small mistake can lead to unwanted consequences. But like the saddle, there is a base of skill, training and confidence on which they rely.

Finally, this work is a visual representation of the balance that we all seek in life. The need to build on solid foundations while recognizing and accepting the inevitable fragilities of our existence. It is a reminder that, in art and in life, beauty is often found in contrasts and in the interaction between resistance and transience.

CRYSTALS HORSESHOE

The care and the time that the confinement that the competition horses have away from freedom. A free spirit at the service of whims and sports cravings. This work is an allegory about freedom and confinement.

The work “Crystal Horseshoe” offers a powerful representation of the dualities faced by competitive horses. This visual creation immediately attracts attention and provokes a reflection on the balance between care and confinement that these majestic animals experience.

The horseshoe, an object traditionally associated with good luck and protection, is enclosed under a glass bell. This act of encapsulation suggests not only the meticulous care with which these horses are treated, but also the restriction and isolation they can experience. It is an object that, although designed to protect the horse’s foot, in this context looks more like an exhibition artifact than a functional tool.

The glass bell, clear and fragile, acts as a barrier between the outside world and the object inside. It is a symbol of the beauty and perfection sought in the world of equestrian competition, but it is also a representation of separation and isolation.

The description provided highlights the irony of the situation: a free spirit, the horse, which has been domesticated and confined to satisfy the desires and sporting ambitions of humans. Through this piece, the viewer is invited to reflect on the price of perfection and glory in the competitive world and the consequences that this can have on beings who, by nature, yearn for freedom.

“Crystal Horseshoe” is a provocative work that defies conventions and offers a critical perspective on the relationship between humans and horses in the field of equestrian competition. It is a reminder that, behind every achievement and every medal, there is a story of sacrifice, both on the part of the rider and the horse.

GROW BOOTS

GROW BOOTS: UNA REFLEXIÓN VISUAL SOBRE EL CRECIMIENTO Y EL PROCESO

These three photographs show the 3 stages that every rider must go through no matter the discipline they choose. The boot, like all shoes, refers to being in the other person’s place and the objects that accompany each stage reinforce the idea of enjoying the PROCESS, which is arduous but rewarding at the same time. They are a reminder that in every process there are STAGES and they must be respected in order to advance and grow as professionals.

FLOWERR BOOT

CONNECTIONS OF EARTH AND SOUL

The earth as a connection to the roots and flowers in contrast to pain. The texture of the earth as a representation of the timeless.

Whisper of Elegance

This captivating image, which is part of the impressive fine art equestrian art series, is an in-depth study of texture, shape and the intricate relationship between light and darkness. The photograph presents a close-up of the braided mane of a horse, capturing every detail with an amazing clarity that transcends the visual to enter the tactile.

The photographer has intentionally chosen an approach that decontextualizes the horse, not presenting it in its entirety but focusing on an aspect that is often overlooked. Braids, meticulously crafted, are not merely an ornament, but a reflection of the communion between the horse and its caretaker, an act of patience and dedication that turns the fur into a work of art in itself.

The black and white palette adds a temporal dimension to the image, evoking nostalgia for classic equestrian studies, while highlighting the texture and structure of the mane. The play of light and shadow in the image is not only a triumph of photographic technique; it is a visual metaphor for life itself. Light represents clarity and truth, while shadow symbolizes the unknown and the aspects of existence that have yet to be discovered.

Philosophically, the image invites a reflection on the nature of art and the subject. In the tradition of equestrian art, a horse is often a symbol of power and freedom. Here, however, the horse is seen in a different light, one that urges us to consider what lies beyond the surface. Each braid and lock of hair becomes a line in a visual poem, a verse in the story of a being who has been, throughout history, both companion and muse.

This work is suitable for the most demanding collectors, those who are looking for something that is both an echo of the past and a vision of the future of equestrian art. Photography, with its focus on detail and its symbolic resonance, is a testimony to the unique place that horses occupy in our world and in our imagination.

As a curator with experience in equestrian art, I see this piece not only as a valuable addition to any collection, but as an invitation to contemplation and dialogue. The image is a reminder of the beauty found in dedication, both in that of the artist and in that of those who have woven the braids, thus uniting nature with human expression.

In a sales context, this work is not simply an image to be acquired, but an experience to be lived. His place in the fine art equestrian series solidifies as a piece that challenges, dialogues and lasts.

WHITE AHEAD

Observing this image in depth, one finds a sublime study of shape and texture that transcends the simple equestrian representation. The photograph evokes an almost sculptural quality, with the horse presented not only as an animal, but as a work of art in itself. The choice of a back plane, omitting the most traditional front view, invites a more intimate and reflective contemplation. We are not simply observing the horse; we are being guided to appreciate every curve and each shadow as an individual brushstroke on a living canvas.

The handling of black and white amplifies this effect, leading the viewer to focus on the interaction of light and shadow that plays along the horse’s muscles, highlighting the innate power and grace of the creature. The texture of the fur and the carefully arranged braid of the mane provide a tactile dimension to the image, suggesting not only the artist’s ability to capture the essence of the subject, but also a deep respect for the inherent dignity of the animal.

As for symbolism, the image can be interpreted as a meditation on the hidden beauty and layers of meaning that we often overlook. The pose of the horse, turned with its back to the viewer, can symbolize a deviation from conventional knowledge or an invitation to look beyond what is immediately visible. The robustness and curvature of the shape of the horse speak of nature and art as inseparable companions, where the line between the created and the born is blurred.

This work, part of a series of equestrian fine art, is aligned with a tradition of artistic representation that seeks not only to capture the appearance of a subject, but also to invoke an emotional and contemplative response in the viewer. In the context of the series, this image acts as a key piece that embodies the philosophy of art as a dialogue between the artist, the subject and the public. Each element of the composition is imbued with intention, from the choice of the framing to the finest detail in the texture of the horse’s skin, everything contributes to a rich and deeply symbolic viewing experience.

In terms of presentation in a gallery or as part of a fine art collection, the work demands a space where the viewer can commit to the image on an almost meditative level. Her presence is both a statement of the artist’s skill and an open door to personal interpretation, inviting those who meet her to reflect on the nature of art, the beauty of what is not said and the depth of the equine world.
